The Matriarch

The Matriarch is the sequel to Ragam Ni Si Marian, covering the period between 1955/1956 and 1990. The novel portrays how the Hasibuan-Siregar family embraces and negotiates various differences in ethnicity, religion, and social strata from a pluralistic perspective. Differences are meant to be tolerated, not contested. In essence, differences are part of what it means to be human and an inherent aspect of human civilization.

Collaborating with Melissa Sunjaya, a visual artist, adds an artistic dimension to this written work through book cover creations and ten narrative illustration inserts.
